Welcome to Our First Blog – Your Medicare Guide Starts Here

We’re excited to launch the very first blog from Foster Insurance Services—and we’re starting with one of the most important topics for Medicare clients: getting ready for AEP (Annual Enrollment Period).

AEP is coming in October, but the noise starts now. You’ll soon be bombarded with phone calls, mailers, and TV commercials all claiming to have “the best plan.” It can be overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be.

This first post is designed to help you prepare in July, so you’re informed, confident, and ready when AEP officially begins. We’ll show you what to watch out for, how to get organized, and how to avoid the confusion that so many seniors experience during this time of year.

At Foster Insurance Services, we’re not here to sell—we’re here to guide. This blog is your resource for staying clear-headed in a noisy world. Let’s get AEP ready—together.

Understanding the Annual Enrollment Period

The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is a critical time for Medicare beneficiaries. It runs from October 15 to December 7 each year, allowing you to make changes to your Medicare coverage. During this period, you can switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage, change Medicare Advantage plans, or alter your Part D prescription drug plan. Understanding your options and preparing ahead of time can make this process much smoother.

Steps to Prepare in July

Evaluate Your Current Coverage

Start by reviewing your current Medicare plan. Consider how well it has met your needs over the past year. Have your health needs changed? Are there any new medications or treatments you require? Make a list of what you like and dislike about your current coverage.

Research Your Options

Take the time to research different plans available in your area. Look for plans that cover your specific health needs and medications. Pay attention to the costs, including premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses. It’s important to find a plan that fits both your health needs and your budget.

Organize Your Documents

Gather all necessary documents, such as your Medicare card, a list of your current prescriptions, and any recent medical bills. Having these documents organized and accessible will make it easier to compare plans and make informed decisions.

Watch Out for Scams

Unfortunately, the AEP period is also a time when scams can occur. Be wary of unsolicited calls or emails asking for your personal information. Remember, Medicare will never call you to sell you a plan or ask for personal details. Always verify the legitimacy of any communication you receive.
